Socket weld flanges are initially developed for use on small size high pressure piping. When provided with an internal weld, their static strength is equal to, but their fatigue strength 50% greater than double welding slip on flanges. These socket weld pipe flanges are attached by inserting the pipe into the socket end and applying fillet weld around the top. This allows for a smooth bore and better flow of the fluid or gas inside of the pipe. Socket weld flanges were initially developed for use on small-size high pressure piping. Socket weld flanges have a female socket in which pipe is fitted. Fillet welding is done from outside on the pipe. The socket weld flange can be utilized instead of thread installations, so the threat of leak is much smaller. Socket weld pipeline need not be beveled for weld prep work. The weld steel can not pass through right into the bore of the pipe.
